Jacques Offenbach (20 June 1819 – 5 October 1880), composer and cellist, was one of the conceiver of the operetta form, a precursor of the modern musical comedy. He was one of a virtually all influential composers of popular music inside Europe in the 19th century, and several of his works remain in the repertory.

Biography
Offenbach was of German birth and was Jewish, born Jacob Eberst, the boy of Isaac Juda Eberst, a temple cantor, bookbinder, music teacher and composer. His father was sleep in Köln in 1807 when a Napoleonic edict required that Jews had to choose heritable surtitle, & he took a name of Offenbach since he wwhen already known there as "Der Offenbacher".

Offenbach moved to Paris within 1833 to learn a violoncello. He witnessed employment swimming violoncello in the orchestra of the Opéra Comique, and wrote many pieces for the instrument. Within 1844, he married Herminie delaware Alcain. Around 1850 he became conductor of the Theatre Français, but around 1855 rented his have theatre, the Bouffes Parisiens on the Title-holder Élysées, & began a successful career devoted largely to operetta and opéras comiques until his death. His virtually all popular works come however performed regularly now. He likewise wrote good deal ballroom music, especially in the can-can style. His right-known light opera in the English-speaking globe come Orpheus in the Underworld, La Vie Parisienne, La Belle Hélène, La Périchole, & A Grand Duchess of Gerolstein.

Offenbach's final opera, ''Tales of Hoffmann, was more good than his more works, reflecting peradventure a eternal wish of the clown to exist as taken seriously. It was however bare at his dying within 1880, however was completed by his right friend Ernest Guiraud and premiered in 1881.

Offenbach is buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre, Paris, France.
