Biography
Offenbach was of German birth and was Jewish, born Jacob Eberst, the boy of Isaac Juda Eberst, a temple cantor, bookbinder, music teacher and composer. His father was sleep in Köln in 1807 when a Napoleonic edict required that Jews had to choose heritable surtitle, & he took a name of Offenbach since he wwhen already known there as "Der Offenbacher".

Offenbach moved to Paris within 1833 to learn a violoncello. He witnessed employment swimming violoncello in the orchestra of the Opéra Comique, and wrote many pieces for the instrument.
